A Poem for My Prince Charming

This is a poem for my dear husband, my prince charming...

I Promise
By Dorothy R. Colgan

I promise to give you the best of myself
and to ask of you no more than you can give.

I promise to respect you as your own person
and to realize that your interests, desires and needs
are no less important than my own.

I promise to share with you my time and my attention
and to bring joy, strength and imagination to our relationship.

I promise to keep myself open to you,
to let you see through the window of my world
into my innermost fears and feelings, secrets and dreams.

I promise to grow along with you,
to be willing to face changes in order to keep
our relationship alive and exciting.

I promise to love you in good times and bad,
with all I have to give and all I feel inside
in the only way I know how,
completely and forever.

Holiday World - better than a Krispy Kreme sugar buzz!

Yesterday was sooooo much fun! We went to Holiday World with our church youth group and had a blast. Boscoe toured the park with another group and we didn't see him much, but he did tell me that he rode the Voyage three times in a row and grand total of 7 times for the day! Holiday World says The Voyage is the #1 Wooden Coaster on the planet. You'll experience 24.2 seconds of zero-G, one of the steepest drops on any wooden coaster and 90-degree banking at highway speeds! Frankly, I'm not that impressed. Ummmm....actually, I'm really afraid to ride it. The drops are too steep for my taste. Boscoe also went on the Liberty Launch, the wave pool, and all of the other roller coasters. I know his stomach was satisfied because he had pizza for lunch :)

George and I stayed with friends of ours, M and J. We went on the Raven roller coaster, the spider, the scrambler and the tilt-a-whirl (M loved all of those), the Hallow swings, Revolution, and so much more. George and J got the highest scores on the Gobble Getaway. George's score was 627 and J's score was 870. I was happy with my score of 230 especially since the last time I went I got zero (but don't tell anyone that I had the gun pointed backwards the entire time), I think M's score was around 190. The water park was also great. The wave pool was a favorite of George and J. Our group really liked the "funnel" and all the tube slides. It was so hard to fit everything into one day. Lets not forget about the ride home. It was almost as exciting as the park because of the wrong turn I made. I think going through Switz City was definitely what you call taking the scenic route. Here are some pictures from our fun-filled day.
Boscoe and N waiting to enter the park. I'm sure they will try to have a good time.

George and J waiting to enter the park. They were so excited that I think we only heard "are we there yet" two times on the way down.
M on the Hallow Swings. Too fun!

George ready to get wet!

Santa, we've been good. Really, we have!

George's Smiling Face

I should have posted this earlier with my writing about the boys going to dirt bike camp. This is George's smiling face as he was waiting to take a swim test. We've heard that he's having a great time at camp. Even though Boscoe has had problems with his bike, he's having fun also. Prince Charming and I can't wait for them to come home so we can hear about their week!

Prince Charming's new coworker

Prince Charming has a new coworker and his name is (drum roll please)........HARLEY. Prince Charming works from home most of the time and when he does, he usually sits on the front porch or the patio if the weather is nice. Well, Harley will not leave Prince Charming alone. Harley is glued to Prince Charming's side, and he thinks he is a lap dog, he tries to come in the house with Prince Charming, etc....you get the picture. Prince Charming said that Tuesday Harley had to sit by him and had his head on Prince Charming's lap and he wouldn't move so Prince Charming could work. It sounded so cute that I had to have Prince Charming get his laptop out and try to recreate the scene. Perfection! Harley did exactly what he did earlier in the day. Prince Charming says he's the perfect coworker because he will always listen to his ideas and laughs at his jokes. Coffee breaks involve throwing the ball and walks around the yard. He's always to work on time and goes to lunch with Prince Charming everyday. It dosen't matter how late Prince Charming works Harley will stay and "work" the extra hours with Prince Charming. Looks like they will make a geat team :-)

It's only been 24 hours

It's only been 24 hours since the boys have left for dirt bike camp and I miss them already. I was kind of excited Sunday night and yet feeling slightly guilty about being excited. We knew Boscoe was excited to go because he was up at 6:30 and not the usual 10:00. Once they arrived at camp, it was like Prince Charming wasn't even there - Boscoe was excited to see his friends from camp last year and get on his bike. Then there's George.....there was a mix up in his registration and he's not staying in the same bunk house with the rest of his group, etc.... Prince Charming and I are trying to look at this as a positive thing hoping that George will learn how to speak up, talk, and not be so quiet. Ok, I'll say it - he needs to be more like his mom. :))

Biscuit's First Birthday

I'm a little late in writing about this, but my youngest niece turned 1 in June and everyone turned out to celebrate. All of the grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends were there to wish Biscuit a happy birthday - even my step sisters. Well, that's what we call them. They really are my dad's very spoiled dogs. Here is a picture of all the cousins that were at the party and my dad holding the step sisters. :)

These are some family pictures with me and my siblings and their families plus our parents.

For a couple of months I was trying to figure out the perfect gift for her - should I get a baby doll (no - Grandma got that), princess dress-up clothing (too young get), a Purdue cheerleading outfit (dad loves Purdue), one of those tunnels that you can crawl through (YES!). As a family, we went shopping for Biscuit's present and decide to buy a combo tunnel/ball pit. It was so nice to see the family, even my step-sisters. Biscuit received lots of book, clothes, and definitely toys. She took a short nap during the festivies, but woke in time to open presents and have cake. And Biscuit learned how to walk about a week before the party so everyone was excited to see how fast she could move.

More pictures from the party.

The weather was beautiful and it couldn't have been a better day for a birthday party for a sweet little girl. Plus, the parents lucked out because we didn't buy any noisy toys....wait - that's an idea for next year!

My flower gardens

When I was younger I really don't remember ever wanting a flower garden or really caring about gardening. The one thing I do remember though is the giant purple lilac bush that was outside my bedroom window. I remember the smell and it was stinky. I did like the flowers and they were pretty, but the smell was sooooo strong. And I remember my mom had lots of ferns in front of the house because it was shaded. I really thought the ferns were ugly (sorry mom).

Fast forward to 1999 and Prince Charming and I moved into our new house with lots of trees. Lots of trees mean lots of shade. Shade equals hostas, coral bells, and astilbe all of which are my favorite plants. Prince Charming also has his favorite - ferns.

As time's gone on, I've acquired an appreciation for gardening and wanted to share pictures of my gardens with you......minus a lilac bush.

I've converted them!

Definitely.....possibly.....maybe not. I really thought I converted Boscoe and Prince Charming from riding dirtbikes to regular bicycles. I've tried to convert them and they have tried to convert me - very scary story that will be told later. Boscoe's birthday is coming up soon and he's had a variety of used bikes (garage sales, Goodwill, etc.), and Prince Charming and I wanted to get him a nice bike for his birthday. We went to Hodsons Bay in Lafayette last weekend and purchased the perfect bike for Boscoe - a Trek 820 in blue, his favorite color. Prince Charming and I have been pleasantly surprised at how much he's been riding it this week. I asked Boscoe what he thought about his bike and he said, "it's cool". Ok, maybe I was expecting too much from a teenager but I think I get the idea by watching him. Now for the big guy...Prince Charming has been talking about getting a bike, but that proved to be a bit more difficult. For those of you that haven't met my husband, he's 6'9" and most things do not come Prince Charming-sized. He tried to buy a bike at Hodsons Bay, but ended up going to Bicycle Garage Indy and purchased a Trek 7.2. So it's 9 PM on Monday and we're going out for a bike ride......ahhhhhh, it was lovely. We went riding Tuesday night and also tonight and I think this is going to be a good thing (can you say Martha Stewart?). I'm a little embarrassed to say that I had a hard time keeping up with Prince Charming but not for long because more training sessions are coming my way. Here's a picture of the boys on their bikes tonight.
